The Academic

Tessara is a writer, historian, and activist. Graduating from Portland State University in 2017 with BAs in Black Studies, Liberal Studies, and Social Science, Tessara plans to pursue a PhD in history, with a research focus on race and gender in labor and the economy.

Her first research article, “Disfavored for the Color of Their Skin: Black Women Workers in the World War II Shipyards of Portland and Vancouver,” is forthcoming (2018) from the PSU McNair Scholars Journal.
